Ottawa and Montréal sit about two hours apart on Highway 417 and Autoroute 40: close enough to be a day trip, far enough that the drive is the whole afternoon. It is the densest pairing on the corridor for people who make the trip regularly rather than occasionally: students, public servants, families split across two cities, and anyone whose work sits in one and whose life sits in the other.
It is also the pairing where a car with three empty seats is hardest to justify. Two hours is short enough that a driver is making the trip anyway, and long enough that who is in the other seats matters.
Who you'd be travelling with
What you each want from the drive is compared before the trip is offered, so several hours in a car are agreed in advance rather than negotiated in the first ten minutes.

I want a seat
Take a seat in a car already making the drive, next to someone you'd choose to sit beside.
