Getting started
When does Voyar launch?
Voyar has not launched. The rider and driver apps launch in the Ottawa – Montréal corridor first. Joining the waitlist is how you find out when it opens where you travel.
Do I need a car to use Voyar?
No. Riders book a seat in a car that is already making the drive. Drivers post the empty seats on a trip they were making anyway. You can be either, on different days.
What does joining the waitlist commit me to?
Nothing. It reserves early access and tells you when Voyar opens in your corridor.
Matching
What does the matching never look at?
Age, gender, ethnicity, religion, politics, or anything inferred from them. None of these is an input, and none is used to weight a match.
Am I told how good a match is?
You are shown what differs between you and the other person before you commit, and the final choice is always yours. Voyar publishes no match-satisfaction figure; nothing has been measured, because nothing has run yet.
Money
How is the price of a seat set?
The driver sets the seat price. The rider pays that price plus the Voyar fee, which is added on top rather than taken out, so the driver receives the full seat price on every seat sold. Both numbers are shown to the rider before they book.
How do I pay?
In the app, through a secure payment gateway. There is no cash and no off-platform arrangement, and drivers are paid automatically after the trip.
Safety
Where do I meet my driver?
At a transit node (a metro station, a transitway stop), not at a stranger's address. It is the first question most people ask about carpooling, and it has a plain answer.
Who decides who I travel with?
You do. Matching is automatic, but nothing is booked for you. You review a member's profile (name, photo, reviews from other members) before you take or offer the seat.
